Homeschooling: Why We Do What We Do
March 30, 2023OR: WHY WE DO WHAT WE NEVER THOUGHT WE WOULD EVER DO. Every family is…
Virginia Beach Christian Academy
Introduction
Virginia Beach Christian Academy provides an amazing blend of options for Christian families who seek to educate their children in a truly Christian environment using materials designed with a Biblical worldview.
We bring the excitement of cutting-edge technology to Christian families by offering two options for schooling their children. One option is a full-distance learning Christian academy. The other is the home school division, which requires families to comply with the homeschool statutes in their state or country of residence. Our families enjoy an exciting academic experience where the children are taught Christian principles and character, Biblical worldview, and Christian service while using an exciting and challenging curriculum, offered via computer access for grades 3-12 and consumable paper products for Kindergarten – grade 2.
Additionally, those families living near the Tidewater area of Virginia have the opportunity to participate in the homeschool co-op sponsored by Bible World Church. Most families also use VBCA services. However, some homeschool independently. All are welcome. We focus on the courses that parents often have difficulty fitting into their day – PE, art, music, and STEM. There are monthly field trips and our children thrive by being involved in a like-minded community where they learn classroom protocols, sportsmanship, getting along with others, and just being together with friends.

About Us
Virginia Beach Christian Academy
Robert and Kimberly Thorp embarked on this journey by teaching preschoolers in their homes in 1975. In 1989, they opened their first Christian academy, and then, in 1991 they answered God’s call to start a home missions church in Virginia Beach, VA. At that point, Virginia Beach Christian Academy was born as a ministry of the United Pentecostal Church of Virginia Beach.
In 2013, the Thorps felt it was time for them to retire from the pastorate. Sis. Thorp’s health had begun to deteriorate as the result of a severe car accident several years earlier. They believed the Lord was leading them into a new season of their lives. Some of the families from the school made other arrangements but many asked for assistance in homeschooling their children.
